Student Government Association Howard College Big Spring
In Attendance: Students: Yesenia Ortiz, Jason Golleher, Joaquine Meza, Hunter Hendrix, Rebecca Mince, Katie Evans, Case Ingram. Advisors: Lewanda Diaz, Jimmy Hobdy, Danny Sparks.
Minutes for April 30, 2013 were read by Secretary. President called for a motion to approve minutes. Rebecca Mince made a motion to approve the minutes for April 30, 2013. Joaquine Meza seconded the motion. President called for a vote and the motion carried.
Minutes for October 1, 2013 were read by Secretary. President called for discussion. Revisions noted were times for the Pizza Inn Fundraiser should be 4:30 – 9:00 pm on October 21, 2013. The Representative position that is vacant is Sophomore Representative rather than Freshman Representative. President called for a motion to approve minutes. Hunter Hendrix made a motion to approve the minutes as amended. Joaquine Meza seconded the motion. President called for a vote. Motion Carried.
Officer Reports:
President Fall Festival went well.
Vice President Fall Festival was successful. Leadership training went well and was fun and informative.
Secretary – No report
Parliamentarian: Fall Festival was bigger this year. Leadership training was good and learned a lot.
Freshman Representative: No report.
Old business:
Region 1 meeting is Nov. 8/9 for Officers
Pizza inn fundraiser is set for oct 21. At 4;30- 9pm President asked for a motion. Joaquine Meza made a motion to have a fund raiser at Pizza Inn on the previously specified time. Hunter Hendrix seconded the motion. Discussion was called for. Vote was called for. Motion carried.
New business:
President: State convention is in April. Group will look at projects to do for convention. Topic is tabled for later discussion.
Danny Sparks – we need to provide more activities for students on campus, “Mid-semester Mania” is requested by Big Spring Council. Will discuss at a later date. President called to approve SGA sponsoring this program. Katie Evans made a motion that SGA sponsor Mid-Semester Mania. Jason Golleher seconded the motion. President asked for someone to volunteer to be the lead on this program. Joaquine Meza volunteered. Vote was called. Motion carried.
Voter Registration: A motion and vote was called for. Motion carried.
Women’s Basketball Date* The first home game for Women’s Basketball is November 4. SGA would like to sponsor a spirit day. Either everyone wears black or red to the game. The decision will be made at a later meeting.
Men’s Basketball Date* The first home game for Men’s Basketball is November 15. SGA would like to sponsor a spirit day. Either everyone wears black or red to the game. This decision will be made at a later meeting.
Homecoming is set for February 6, 2014.
Announcements:
Adviser Lewanda Diaz announced Nacho Ordinary Game Night will be in the Fire Place Room 8pm October 12
Advisor Danny Sparks let everyone know that the SGA Office Door has now been labeled
With not more business to discuss the President called for a motion to end the meeting. Joaquine Meza made a motion to end the meeting. Katie Evans seconded the motion. President called for a vote. Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 12:44 pm.
