Please See Below For Some 2012 Memories
2012/13 was a great year. Our President, Chelsey Hunt was elected to the state SGA Board. Her plans changed when she had to leave Howard College in December. The VP, Eric Ochoa, took over the Presidency and her state position. Eric did a GREAT job in the state position and we are all very proud of him!

Fall Festival - October 4
The Student Government Association held our first annual Fall Festival event. This event took place on Thursday, October 4 ,2012. It began at 5:30 P.M. and ended about 7 P.M. The event was very well attended and all who went had a great time!
All campus organizations were welcome to set up a Booth beside the sub to promote their club or sport. They took this opportunity to talk up their organizations and to have fun. It was open for the community and to all the students.
Many thanks to all that helped to make this event happen.
See this link for some pictures of the event.

Tuesday September 25, 2012
Tuesday, September 25 from 11-1 - We were set up in the Student Union Building helping students/staff/community members get registered to vote. We registered over thirty people to vote, plus helped several dorm students to fill out a form so that their ballot could be mailed to them for the November election.

Constitution Day
Monday September 17, 2012
September 17 was Constitution Day. It was a day to stop and reflect on what our forefathers thought were important for an independent nation and the words that were put to paper that encouraged the fight for independence and defined our nation.
The Howard College Big Spring Student Government Association handed out constitutions in the Student Union Building from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm.
Preamble to the Constitution of the United States of America
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
We have not included the constitution but have included a website address with the constitution and other related documents. http://www.archives.gov/exhibits/charters/constitution_transcript.html
Below are quotes of character from some of the individuals that were elected to serve the United States of America.
“I hope I shall always possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an "Honest Man.” George Washington
“Do you want to know who you are? Don't ask. Act! Action will delineate and define you.” Thomas Jefferson
“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”
John Quincy Adams
“I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.” Abraham Lincoln

Texas Junior College
Student Government Association
We are a proud member of the Texas Junior College Student Government Association. Please see the State Page by clicking here.
The Texas Junior College Student Government Association is the only student maintained organization in the state that works to promote the cause of community college students at the local, regional, state and national level. We are composed of over 72 member colleges across the state.
The member colleges are divided into six regional districts drawn at the county level. These regions meet at fall and annual conventions to coordinate activities and to help plan the state convention.
Six students and two advisors (along with our sister school in San Angelo) went to the state convention in Houston. We all learned a great deal and look forward to the convention next year in Austin. Yessenia Ortiz was elected to the region one board for the next year! Congrates to Yessenia!

Community College Day 2013
About twenty students and staff/faculty went to the capitol for Community College Day. Everyone got to rub elbow with several congress men and women. It was a great day for Howard College as shared our opinion on the importance of Junior Colleges in the state.
